Portrait Paintings
A face holds a whole life. Painting a portrait is a long act of attention: hours of looking, until the person stops being a likeness and starts being present.
Some of these are people who shaped how I see the world: Ramana Maharshi, Leo Tolstoy and the Hungarian philosopher Béla Hamvas. Others sat for me in the studio, including sitters from my Portrait of Milton Keynes project.
Portrait commissions
I take on only a few commissions a year, alongside my studio practice and teaching, so there may be a wait. Each portrait is painted in oil, and we’ll talk through the sitting, the size and the timing before anything starts.
From £400 for an A4 head study to £750 for a 40 × 50 cm portrait.
