CSABA TIBOR PALOTAS

Artist. Teacher. Observer.

I define my work not by the medium I use, but by the question I am asking. Whether through oil painting, life drawing, or mindfulness, my practice is a continuous investigation into the nature of reality.

For years, I worked as a “service provider” in the tattoo industry, responding to the requests of others. Today, my work is an internal response to the ‘Hidden Geometry’ of the universe—the structure that holds our being

I describe my art as “Love letters to nature.” But nature is not just the trees outside; it is the landscape of the human mind, the architecture of the soul, and the silence behind the noise.

THE TECHNIQUE: THE WOUND AND THE REVEAL

The use of masking tape is a recurring theme in my art, regardless of whether I am drawing or painting. It serves a dual purpose—one technical, one spiritual.

When the artwork is in progress, I rip the adhered tape away. This physical act creates a “wound” on the paper or canvas. It breaks the initial unity of the image.

This symbolises our human condition. We are all wounded; life cannot happen without damage. We all carry these tears.

But while the surface unity is broken, the wound reveals something else. It exposes an underlying layer that was previously unknown, even to the viewer. It creates a new, more complex unity.

This structure mirrors the human mind. Our psyche is layered, just as life itself is layered. The suffering and damage, when met with awareness, can reveal this depth. Through these uncovered layers, we discover more about ourselves and our world.

WHAT IS "ONE"?

The name One Art Studio is not an accident. “One” holds three distinct meanings for me.

1. The Enso In the Zen Buddhist tradition, the Enso is a circle painted with a single breath and a single brushstroke. It represents everything: whole, complete, and perfect. It is the visual symbol of the interconnectedness of all things.

2. Non-Duality “One” points to the concept of Advaita (Not-Two). It is the realization that the observer and the observed are not separate. There is no “Artist” looking at the “Subject”; there is only seeing.

3. The Void Paradoxically, “One” also represents the Zero. The Emptiness. Just as a cup is useful only because of the empty space inside it, existence is defined by the space that holds it.

This is the foundation of the studio: a space where form meets emptiness.

ART AS AWAKENING

We use the word “Art” often, but we rarely define it. I share Nietzsche’s view:

“Art is not the imitation of nature, but a metaphysical complement that will enable the transcendence of nature itself.”

Art is a tool to bring us closer to reality. Its function is not just to decorate, but to awaken.

This awakening happens in the moment of “Awe.” When you stand before a painting and feel something unexplainably beautiful or meaningful, the thinking mind stops. The “Self” dissolves.

That is the One Bright Pearl. That is the spiritual experience.

My job is not to paint a picture; it is to create a mirror. If you look into these canvases and find a moment of silence, then the work is complete.
